إن تغيير اتجاه الحركة لا يؤثر على مقدار واتجاه القوة الكهربائية، فطالما أن الجسم يتحرك بسرعة ثابتة تكون محصلة القوى المؤثرة عليه تساوي صفراً، فإن القوة الخارجية تكون مساوية لمقدار القوة الكهربائية ولكن في اتجاه عكسي.

تؤثر القوة الكهربائية في اتجاه الحقل عكس اتجاه الحركة، وبالتالي تؤثر القوة الخارجية في اتجاه الحركة. 

نرسم مخططًا للقوى المؤثرة على الجسم أثناء حركته من النقطة A إلى النقطة B:

وبما أنه لا يوجد أي تغيير في الطاقة الحركية للجسم، نحسب شغل القوة الخارجية في حركة الجسم من النقطة A إلى النقطة B باستخدام تعبير شغل القوة الخارجية:
